Stop Wage Theft in Jersey City Construction
Jersey City workers deserve to be paid fairly.
Wage theft—failing to pay workers what they’re legally owed for their labor—is the largest form of theft in the US economy.
Wage theft can take many forms, from unpaid regular time or overtime, to prevailing wage violations, to being told to clock out and keep working.
In Jersey City, hundreds of construction workers employed by GP Concrete Construction, LLC worked for weeks without pay in the summer of 2024 at Kushner Companies’ The Journal and Namdar Group’s project at 35 Cottage St.
GP Concrete workers contacted LIUNA, and we helped over 70 workers file wage claims with the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development (NJDOL). NJDOL investigators determined that GP Concrete had failed to pay workers more than $716,000 in unpaid wages.
GP Concrete later filed for bankruptcy and informed the Bankruptcy Court that the workers who were owed wages were “nonpriority creditors.”
Over two years later these workers are still fighting to recover their stolen wages.
