That’s why LIUNA, the Laborers’ International Union of North America, is monitoring bids for the planned construction of the new Asbury Park Fire Department Headquarters.
Public procurement relies on a fair bidding process and those bids need to be accurate and truthful to be fair—fair for fellow bidders and fair for our community.
But what if one of the bidders—the lowest bidder–isn’t truthful? Is that fair? Do public officials look the other way and ignore the obvious, ignore their own process, ignore the law?
It is never the wrong time to do the right thing and doing the right thing is what we all should expect of our local government and ourselves.

We are the Laborers’ International Union of North America, or LIUNA. We are a labor union representing skilled construction workers in New Jersey including 50 members who live right here in Asbury Park. LIUNA supports its members through its industry accredited apprenticeship and training programs, through workplace representation, and by collectively bargaining for family-sustaining wages and benefits and fair work rules on the job.
